Starburst is planning to open six stores in Ithaca New York.
This is a great opportunity for IWW members who want to take on Starbucks in a activist friendly town with great social support system, public transportation and beautiful scenery, NY’s biggest Cooperative grocery, a healthy Alternates Bank, a heath insurance cooperative (Ithaca Health Fund), a thriving farmers market, and lets not forget it’s own currency (Ithaca hours.)
It is also home to Cornell Universities School for Industrial Labor Relations. If you are planning on a career in organizing after going to school at Cornell or Ithaca University, think about organizing Starbucks before they even open their first location… but no fear if you come to late and Starburst is already IWW there is always Target, Wal-Mart, Borders, and a ton of other big box stores ripe for Workers to take their future into their own hands.
