Working at Starbucks

So, what's up with starbucks being open on Christmas day? I know there are people who don't celebrate christmas, but that's not a reason for us to be open. We are the only country that thinks that everything must be open 24/7 all year. All other countries close things down for holidays...even for things like world cup! HOw can we make a change? I don't think it's right for Starbucks to have us work on this day!

nina,Starbucks will not open on Christmas Day if there are no customers in the store. Consider signing on with the IWW Union,just like the baristas have done in New York City and Chicago.

Fuck that I'm Jewish I hope they give me 12 hours on Christmas because nobody's gonna be getting coffee (or at least I hope) and I'll get pay and a half.

But in all seriousness, there was a big hurricane scare in South Florida a couple of months ago and Starbuck's stayed open except for a couple of hours when they had to close. I got off work just in time to help my parents put up shutters as it started to rain.

Not all STBX are open on Christmas Day. Only select stores with the volume to support the costs. All you have to do is request the day off and calm down.

Im from Toronto and our store was open only because people volunteered to work tht day..plus time and a half so people didnt mind..=)

What did everyone think about working? First of all, my manager could not get enough people to volunteer. I on the other hand did volunteer and let me tell you it is not worth the "pay and a half". Maybe they should consider double time and a half next year. Second, we were as busy as the day after thanksgiving and Christmas eve. After work I was so anti-social I did not do anything but stay home by myself so I could not have to deal with anyone.

OK....first of all under the Constitution you don't have to work, it's your religious right......Second I don't give a Flying "FU%$" who did what way back in the day that some people call x-mas.....I have no beliefs so why STOP me from enjoying a latte on a day like any other!!!!!

What it is to denie something? Do you mean deny? What is the right you don't want denied? You said yourself you don't have to work on x-mas. You know you can work if you want to. Where is the loss of freedom?

Christmas is actually rooted in pagan origins and can be traced back around 4,000 years to the ancient Egyptians celebrating the birth of their own dying and resurrecting son of god, Osiris. I think that's a tradition worth honoring.

In Starbucks Greece we work 24/7 actually 20/7.
We're open on Christmas,Easter,holidays,strikes,all days.
Even if there's none in town we'll be open to serve our nice costumers!!!
